This glossary defines key terms used across ZodiAge's tools — from basic astrology concepts to Chinese zodiac terminology and tarot symbolism. Use it as a reference while exploring your results.
Core Astrology Terms
Sun Sign: Your primary zodiac sign, determined by the position of the Sun at the time of your birth. This is what most people mean when they say "I'm a Leo" or "She's a Scorpio."
Moon Sign: The zodiac sign the Moon was in at your birth. Associated with emotions, instincts, and inner life.
Rising Sign (Ascendant): The zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the exact moment of birth. Requires a birth time. Associated with outward personality and first impressions.
Tropical Zodiac: The Western astrology system aligned to the seasons (vernal equinox = 0° Aries). Used by ZodiAge.
Saturn Return: The period around ages 28–30 when Saturn completes its first full orbit since your birth. Associated with major life transitions and increased responsibility.
Tarot Terms
Major Arcana: The 22 central cards of a tarot deck, representing major life themes and archetypes — from The Fool (0) to The World (21).
The Fool's Journey: A metaphor for the path through life represented by the 22 Major Arcana cards in sequence.
Chinese Zodiac Terms
The 12 Animals: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig — each governing a year in the lunar cycle.
Five Elements (Wu Xing): Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water — each pairing with the 12-year animal cycle to create a 60-year cycle.
